    You told us recently about a man who scaled a tall mountain without ropes. Was his name Dean Potter?

    I'm reading what might be the most riveting book I've ever redd in my life: The Rise of Superman: Decoding the Science of Ultimate Human Performance. It talks among other things about man's conquering of what he calls big nature: big waves, big climbs, big walls, big gaps. Big, big, big.

    He describes Mount Fitz Roy, "the tallest mountain in Patagonia". Here's how he describes it: "A daunting blade of rock -- jagged and ragged and mean. It is cold. It is isolated. And getting to its zenith demands crossing a vertical ocean of granite protected by some of the most ferocious weather on earth."

    Of course, to serous climbers, all this is catnip, baby!

    I haven't finished Potter's story yet, but I suspect it will be about his climb using "rapid big wall free soloing", that is, alone, no team, no ropes, no protection. I'm wondering if he's your guy.

    Success is measured by your discipline and inner peace. – Mike Ditka

        @bachophile Yup.

        @Catseye3 Watch the movie "Free Solo". If you do not have wet palms through the movie, you are quite a strong person.

        Some of the stuff he would do to train is crazy - like hold on to the wood frame that frames a door (maybe one inch wide) for 90 minutes to strengthen his hands.
