Exactly. This is something that has been there for hundreds(?) of years before the US ever heard of the country.
Not the fault of US President (Bush/Obama/Trump/Biden). Most 0f the areas outside of Kabul have the mental outlook of a thousand years ago.

Indeed, we knew much less about Afghanistan and its people than the little we knew and understood about the Soviet Union and its people.

Can you imagine our attitudes if a foreign had invaded us and decimated our country to the Mason-Dixon line?
