I personally don't get the attraction to these simulators. People use a rig like my racing rig to drive them.

Playing these games is one thing, but now on facebook there are groups dedicated to watching others play them, with live streaming. There are thousands of people watching a guy drive a simulated truck.

There is a fantasy of retiring from the real world, buying a “Big Rig” and touring the United States while getting paid. Americans really have romanticized the trucker life.

Not just Americans. There is the European Truck Simulator as well. Even a specific German Truck sim.

I personally would rather flip burgers or collect garbage than driving a truck. I did actually work as a truck driver for a few months during my time in the military. It's boring as ****, it's a very unhealthy lifestyle, it's often very incompatible with family, and it's a job that is likely to be replaced by a machine in the foreseeable future.

I like long distance driving. Not sure I would like a big truck. I would prefer a nice comfy high end car. But I can drive hours and hours and not be bored.
In a fantasy life I can see myself crossing the USA east to west and back again. Or Alaska to Tierra del fuego. Or Norway to Sicily. All by driving solo.

Me too. I thought at one time about trucking but there is too much other crap that goes along with it like loading and unloading stuff. I would be interested in auto transport driving though.

Yes, a lot of guys like to collect garbage
But now it is mostly about driving the truck
