I may have posted about Mrs. George's GI problems a while ago.

She had seen a gastroenterologist for difficulty swallowing. Food would get "stuck" and she'd sometimes have to (ahem) regurgitate it. He referred her to a GI surgeon, and she had a Nissen Fundopliction for a large hiatal hernia and reflux. The reflux caused an esophageal stricture that also needed to be fixed. Big-ass surgery, fortunately, all done laparoscopically.

We both agree that, though the surgery was not 100% successful - you trade one set of problems for another - her quality of life is MUCH better.

    Anyhow....

Yesterday, we went for a 6 month followup with the GI doc - no need to see the surgeon any more.

He's a real good, calm and concerned guy. Just speaking to him the word "gentle" comes to mind. This is the guy who did my colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago.

He did something yesterday that I hadn't seen in years: he didn't turn on the computer, and took notes, on a pad, resting on his knee as we talked. He looked at her, and talked, asked questions....just like in the old days.

Quite refreshing, and we both walked away with the feeling that he was taking care of her, not checking boxes on an EPIC computer screen.

      That's a rare bird in today's world.

Glad to hear the missus is doing better. 👍

God bless him. I hate what EMR has done to medicine.

A good doctor. Wish we could find one "in network" for Mrs. Mark. She has had gastro issues most of this year. Appointment with gastro PA next week. Hope they actually find out what's wrong.

Want me to ask for a referral from Mrs. George's doc?

PM (or email) if you want!
