      What was the nature of his lung injury? Article doesn't say.

        The only thing I found was severe trauma, upper chest. I would assume collapsed lung.

        Why the vent for that?

          I could see it for a flail chest, but that would've been a HELL of a hit with multiple rib fractures.

          Sternal flail?
