Parents doing a college search for their high school senior. One school had a very highly rated program in the kid's prospective major. The school also was offering a substantial scholarship.

That was good, but it was in a Red State. Therefore, it was not considered.

Now, parents won't even consider an academically advanced college, with substantial scholarships being offered, because of geography and regional politics.

Is it just me, or is that batshit crazy?

It's about the craziest thing I've heard this week.

I know I keep harping on this but I think it's a massive mistake to focus solely on STEM. A ton of kids just aren't wired for it, nor do they have to be.

What really sucks is that kids today don't have a choice. Conservative schools place little value on arts and the humanities. At best, they'll tell you that learning who you are and what to live for is all well and good, but ultimately it's worthless knowledge, because it doesn't lead to job market credentials. At worst, they vilify arts and the humanities as tools of the liberal anti-christ. And on the liberal side, no description of their approach to arts and the humanities would be accurate without evoking Godwin's Law.

Regardless, in today's climate, I'd actively seek out a conservative school. Any conservative school. Either for myself or my kid.

Tons. I'm not talking about schools that explicitly broadcast the fact that they're conservative, I just mean there's a significant portion of the faculty, staff, and student body who fall into that category.

I have no idea, but not looking for a majority either, necessarily. Just enough to keep the school from being insane. There's still a decent number of those.

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm really curious where these are. Granted, I view trough a red prism, but I don't think that the number of colleges/universities that have a significant number of conservative faculty or students is really small. Greater than zero, but not by much, particularly when you get to larger schools.

Last night, Lucas attended a PLP event. CNU has a sort of minor called The Presidential Leadership Program. The president of the college brings in special speakers and advisors to work with throughout the year. They also have to perform 50 hours of community service every year. The guys are required to wear suit and tie and the women have to wear professional attire (hems below the knee and no bare shoulders). Lucas got his advisor last night. It’s Barbara Comstock, former Republican Senator. His girlfriend got a Democrat delegate from the State House…

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm really curious where these are. Granted, I view trough a red prism, but I don't think that the number of colleges/universities that have a significant number of conservative faculty or students is really small. Greater than zero, but not by much, particularly when you get to larger schools.

Lot of the small liberal arts colleges. Schools like Mississippi College, Louisiana College, East Texas Baptist are some I'm familiar with, but those type schools are scattered throughout the U.S. Some have centers of excellence that will surprise you.

I'm an old LC alumni. When I was there many years ago, the med school acceptance rate was almost 92%. It's not as good now, but I understand it's still in the high 80's.

Larger schools? BYU, Liberty, Baylor, Auburn, TCU, Texas A&M.

Tons of small schools in the south. Basically what Jolly said.

There is an Work College Consortium that is a bunch of small schools is the region. My SIL works for one. That would be a good place to look. It’s also part of another one that has even more.
