        Supposedly it was because of the out-of-plane orbit that it has, Pluto was demoted.

        Among other reasons.

          I think the same force comes into play on Earth as well. The Earth is a bit deformed, and the tendency is for mass to move towards the equator (lots of other forces at play - so it's not super clean).
