What do you mean “get ready”? It’s already here.

By the way, Woodpulp is 50% more expensive than last year at this time. Those Christmas Cards are going to be expensive…

      Now, as to why...

      https://www.today.com/news/another-paper-shortage-latest-supply-disruptions-mean-rcna2002

These guys push the pulp angle. That's not the whole story. The story is actually in the chemicals used in the production of paper. Chinese shipments have been down, for multiple reasons...Lack of Chinese paper production, lack of Chinese chemical production and the shipping logjam.

Domestic shipments are abysmal. Louisiana is a major chemical producer and the chemical plants were hugely affected by Hurricane Ida. I briefly worked in the paper industry a long time ago and still know a few people...Mills have been substituting chemicals and tweaking processes since early in the pandemic. The domestic mills, especially with some kinds of paper, have hit the wall. There is nothing left to substitute with.

Chinese chemicals + American chemicals = Not enough chemicals.

No one should be surprised that the supply chain is brittle. Massive shocks were not built into the model and the hurricane impacts extend to many products. I wouldn’t want to be looking for a new car especially now, gas too.

Fixing all this will be a multi year effort.

Interestingly needless death is not the major concern. LOL

It's not middle school if it's factual. You have multiple posts today, dealing with chemical shortages to pro football, and you've mentioned COVID vaccines in every one of them.

You're giving monomaniacal a new definition.

                  What to do?
Should we stock up on toilet paper and paper towels again?
Maybe keep those Amazon.com boxes around longer before recycling them?

I think it's going to extend to copy paper and such, this time.

I just read the report. The weird thing is they are saying there’s plenty of product, just shortages in manpower in shipping. That kind of goes against the reports of paper shortages…

There are three closed Chinese ports. There is a shipping logjam on the West Coast. There is a shortage of trucks and only so much rail rolling stock. And Hurricane Ida did a number on the Port of New Orleans and Cancer Alley in the Baton Rouge-New Orleans corridor.

I mentioned it above - but I'm not kidding.
