Florida’s Department of Health asked the federal government for 200 ventilators and 100 high flow nasal oxygen kits to add to Florida’s emergency reserves. DeSantis says he was not aware that the request has been made.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Just over half of Florida’s 2.8 million public school students now face mandates to wear masks in classrooms as a courtroom battle continues over efforts by Gov. Ron DeSantis to leave such decisions up to parents.

A Florida judge ruled Friday that Gov. Ron DeSantis’s administration overstepped its authority in restricting school districts from enacting mask mandates after parents sued officials amid a surge in coronavirus infections.
Judge John C. Cooper of Florida’s 2nd Circuit sided with parents from six Florida counties who challenged DeSantis (R) and state education officials in court this week, arguing that the governor’s order infringes on classroom safety guaranteed by the state’s constitution.

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Department of Education on Monday defied a recent ruling from a state judge and leveled its first sanctions against school board members who rejected the DeSantis administration’s orders on local mask mandates.

13 Miami-area school staffers have died of covid-19 this school year
Miami-Dade County Public Schools are reporting at least 13 employee deaths from covid-19 since mid-August, a tally that forecasts what could be a grim autumn for Florida educators.
... -
Wow! 13 died from a disease that normally takes 4 weeks to kill and the kids have only been back for 2 weeks? Those masks they were required to wear must have made the COVID worse…
-
Oh wait, 13 have died since mid-August and the kids have been back since late August…Hmmm, maybe it wasn’t the kids?

Oh, FFS, did anybody else actually read that bullshit?

Nice graph.
Now, can you extrapolate the data to single out cases transmitted within the public school system?

Now, can you extrapolate the data to single out cases transmitted within the public school system? That wasn't the point of my posting the graph. The point was, Florida's going through a rough patch right now, and cherry-picking over school infections isn't going to change that.

Yes, Florida’s been a hotspot these past two months and had one of the worst spreads we’ve seen. How does that justify the Post trying to manipulate the facts to create a narrative? 13 staffers doesn’t equate 13 teachers and in this case, we don’t even know that 13 died of COVID, the article admits that. Beyond that with the timing, most or all caught the disease before the school year began. Even the one teacher example they used likely caught it from his sister. (And wasn’t it extra special how the Post mentioned his attention to children of color and his work in a program for kids founded by a Dem rep?)
They also pointed back to the Texas teachers, both of whom died before kids were back in school.
Are you denying that this was a gross misrepresentation and attempt to manipulate the readers? Or is it justified just because Florida got hit with a surge? The same surge that experts are predicting for elsewhere in the US?

No, I just don't care. I don't care in any way whatsoever how hogwash the story is. I care that Florida's in bad shape, on some level precisely because DeSantis has fucked up on many fronts.

? Did Israel fuck up? Did the UK? Florida, Texas, and Louisiana were hit with Delta before anybody knew the vaccinations were wearing off or that Pfizer was less effective than hoped…How is that DeSantis’ fault?

By actively preventing public and private entities from creating their own safety procedures. And also by literally saying on record, many times, that getting vaccinated doesn't matter to anyone and it's a personal choice that has no impact on public health.
