The guy is actually wrong on a few details...For instance, I have a 2011 GMC with the 4.8 engine. It does not have the cylinder deactivation. So double check stuff he says, as sometimes it is more engine or transmission dependent than year dependent. But he's dead on about the Ford V8's, the new GM V8's and the Dodge V6 motors.
GM is sooo bad, that a factory option is to delete the active cylinder deactivation on a new truck. Before, guys would buy them, deactivate them and voluntarily void the warranty.
If I had a dollar for every person that has wanted to buy my truck (including my mechanic), we'd all go have a three martini lunch...
