I just came home from going to town. What I saw rolling in was so black and massive I can't even begin to imagine what this looked like in Louisiana. I've never seen anything like it.

Any idea how many evacuated from New Orleans? Videos make the town look pretty deserted.

        Don't know.

I did hear John Bell say we have 1.1M homes and businesses without power.

Yup, solid wall of rain for most of the night and steady gonna-be-here-awhile rain right now.

The most intense glob of the storm, from Atlanta to Long Island, went directly over us last night at 4 AM. The lightning was everywhere and did. Not. Stop. Shit was getting struck all around us and the rain was so intense, older trees just gave up and fell. So much rain was hitting the roof it just slid right past the gutters and came down in ribbons.

And yeah, that was just a storm, not a hurricane.

I tried to go out on the front walk and get a picture but something in our neighborhood got struck and I decided against it.

            Please love yourself.

Heard on the radio that the bill for Ida will be about 20% of Katrina.

Friend of mine in South Louisiana who has weathered several hurricanes, said the wind in this storm was a first for him - over 60mph winds at his house for over 6 hours.

Yeah, woke me up for a bit but the sound of the rain on the skylights knocked me right back out. It’s been strange since then. We’re supposed to be deluged with rain, but it’s been dry since 7AM…

Rain with short spots of no-rain all day; wind the last several hours, not violent but making its presence known. I periodically hear the sound of something crashing to the earth at a distance. Cool enough for a light sweater.

Heavy winds just started in NY. We’re supposed to get them here in Cape Cod tomorrow.
