They've shifted the American model a little east. Looks like the center of the cone is Houma.

If that's the case, that's bad ju-ju for New Orleans.

As usual, I'm working this Sunday, so the drive home may be a little sporty, especially on the bridge. I started preps yesterday...Checked out my generator, filled it up and sat another 25 gallons of gas back. I'll be using my saws this morning and I'll sharpen them afterwards. The wife will pick up some food for the finicky cat today, so barring unforseen problems, I should be able to stay dry, fed and somewhat cool for a few days.😊

Or Florida. That collection of batteries is nothing compared to what I found at my mother's house a couple of weeks ago. Some were 10 years past their "good by" date.

Maybe some hurricane force winds, around 4-6 inches of rain or so, just another day at the office.

The Hunter plane this morning placed Ida at 150mph, 935mb, which makes her stronger than Laura. She's a hair east of track, which makes it better for me in my part of the state, but I wouldn't want to be in New Orleans this evening. Good news is that almost all of the pumps are working, so you you shouldn't see the debacle of Katrina. But it certainly could be Betsy.

Speaking of, today is the anniversary of Katrina.

What we don't need is another "Forgotten Storm". Folks don't remember Rita, which followed Katrina and was actually a stronger hurricane. The one-two punch was not to be forgotten.

The should have a hospital ship positioned to assist. Also i wonder what resources FEMA has put in place in advance.

The should have a hospital ship positioned to assist. Also i wonder what resources FEMA has put in place in advance.

About fifteen miles from the house I understand they have about 90 mil-type portable generators parked and quite a bit of water and ice. It's been the staging area before...It's the largest National Guard base in the state, with their own batch of Blackhawks.

Search and rescue teams are billeted out in the facilities at AEX, from my understanding, and a beefed-up U.S. Marshal contingent.

The water and ice will roll as needed, using private contractors to haul and NG to help pass it out. The NG will set up the generators where they will do the most good (waterworks, sewage lift station, etc.), if the emergency systems already in place don't work or if they don't have back-up power. S&R will be used as needed, with the Marshals to help provide security for them, again, if needed.

Other than the stuff local to me, I don't know.
