Your doctor should be willing to do so. If not, go to an urgent care. They will put you on it ASAP.

Better have an appointment. Otherwise they'll sit around smoking cigarettes and watch you die in the parking lot. 😠

Nah, urgent care is great for mild stuff like this. For serious problems, hell no.

I hope you don’t have Lyme. Good for you to be proactive about all that. How does one see a doctor in such short order?

      Education is extremely important.

My Lyme disease hit me very hard, mostly utter exhaustion. Scary that the doxy didn’t seem to be working the first couple of weeks. In the end I have not experienced anything since, it seems like a lifetime ago.

It's funky here. I got a next-day appointment, and there was no one in the waiting room.

My ophthalmologist requires 3-4 months advance scheduling. Used to be 3-4 weeks.

My doc sent the one-dose doxy to the wrong CVS, though, so I was trying to transfer it.
CVS 1 basically refused to fill it. They said it would take days. Everyone was working the clinic.
CVS 2 never answered their phone.
CVS 3 in the next county over could do it, no problem. There was nobody in there.

          Please love yourself.

No. My recollection at the time was that there were three phases and if you got it in phase 1 you were absolutely fine, by phase 3 it was in you forever. I think phase 1 is many months so you are well within a safe period if all that still holds.

In fact I haven’t thought about it in years until you mentioned it.

Sorry? I'm not getting this. What do you mean by 'phases'? Phases the bug is in when it bites you, or something?

No, a timeline from when you got bit to when you do something about it.

You may or may not get acute Lyme. But wait too long, and you can get chronic Lyme, which is not so much an infection as it is a permanent autoimmune disorder.

                  Please love yourself.

I have a good friend who's daughter got the chronic version as they didn't catch it in time, and it's pretty awful. It's basically stopped her from being able to have a reasonable career.

                      I was only joking

Sorry to hear this. I hope you don't get it. We used to have a vaccine for Lyme. We might get one again in a couple of years.

                              Well, fuck.

I've had some moderate problems with dizziness for the past two days. Haven't been able to shake it. When I lie down I'm pretty close to fine, but sitting or standing, I get pretty light-headed and my legs feel pretty wobbly.

Found the tick on Sunday, took an initial doxy dose on Wednesday, started the twice-daily 30-day program on Saturday night. I think I caught it early enough. Hope I did anyway.

This is gearing up to be a rather crappy month, but my main fear is that this doesn't go away after that and it's followed by worse shit.

My doctor's office is fucking worthless. Nurse Practitioner I initially spoke to was loathe to give me anything, and the doc I spoke to last week is absolutely convinced I have COVID. She wanted me to get properly tested at a facility that uses literally the same rapid tests we have here at home. I know that because I've gone there, asked what they used, and whether I could get the same kit for the house, which I can. So it's either go to the place and risk getting COVID to prove to a dipshit doctor I don't have COVID, or find a different doc. I'm going with option B.

                              Please love yourself.

You need a new doctor, preferably outside that organization.

Yes, it's time to change docs.

Probably because I'm having a Cynical Day, I advise you to tell the new guy about your current symptoms before telling about all the business with the Lyme and the doxy. No need to telegraph him into a groove before you have to.

It's like, the patient relates all the symptoms of malaria and then says, "Do you think I have malaria, doc?" And the doc says, "Why, yes, I do think you have malaria! Pay on the way out, please."

Based on what I learned and what I went through I would not be concerned about long term issues. As I mentioned before it took me 3 weeks of being on the doxy before I felt any relief from absolute exhaustion. I really thought after 3 days of an antiobiotic I would be on the mend and I remember staring into my depleting bottle of Doxy thinking crap this is not working.
