Traffic stop. Two cops approach car with 3 people inside. Driver, passenger open fire on cops, female passenger flees.

One cop critically injured, the other 29 YO female cop dies.

          No fear.

In order to keep the lid on the predators, they must fear the law. They must fear the punishment for their evil deeds.

Fear is the beginning of respect.

They must know, that if you kill a cop, you will be found, arrested, tried, convicted and executed as soon as possible. Put them in jail for life? Bwhahahaha! They don't care about that. For many, prison may be a better life. Many I've talked to like the structure of prison, they just don't like the loss of freedom.

It's time to bring back active policing in the big cities. It's time to apply the broken window mentality to policing and civic pride. And it's time to make the bad people feel a little tingle of fear, every time they see a badge and a uniform.

A certain psychometrician on this forum counts posts and the emotive content in them, as we react to these sorts of things. Let's see who does or does not care about indiscriminate killing of civilians and police officers when it's not bound up in insurrections, or the mattering of black lives. Then we'll ask the psychometrician to report back with his findings.

            Education is extremely important.

@horace That would only work if everyone who had a reaction -- or didn't -- posted about it. What about those who reacted but didn't post?

Based on this metric, they do not care about the indiscriminate killing of civilians and police officers when it's not bound up in insurrections, or the mattering of black lives.

Within this psychometric framework, the emotive content of posts in response to certain issues indicates the depth of feeling one has about those issues. A lack of posts, or a lack of emotion within the posts, indicates a lack of caring - indeed, a lack of empathy itself.

I'm sorry, but the science is settled. There are those who are expert psychometricians, and those who are not. I choose to believe the experts - because I am humble, and I know my own limits.

The pop culture messaging around sympathy for some weak-to-non-existent correlation between Jan 6 and some police suicides 7 months later, will surely pale in comparison to the sympathy expressed for these officers, and the not-so-weak correlation between the bad guys' bullets passing through their heads, and their death.

Apparently, she did not have a newborn.

                              Chicago's mayor:

While the mayor said “we need to continue the journey to achieve constitutional, accountable policing,” she insisted “the police are not our enemies.”

She continued: “They are human, just as we are. Flawed, just as we are. ... But also risking their lives every day for our safety and security.”

Chicago residents, she said, should remember the danger police officers put themselves in every day.

“When you see a police officer, say ‘thank you,’” Lightfoot said. “Just say, ‘thank you.’”

Brown said so far this year, 38 officers have been shot at, and 11 have been hit by gunfire.

Why would anyone want to be a cop these days?

As I understand it, the law abiding people of color still appreciate them. The white progressives, not so much. Not that they've ever needed one, and not that they can imagine ever needing one.

Outside of the big cities it's a lot different - the cops around here have a pretty decent working life, and are appreciated by pretty much everybody as far as I can tell.

Last week they busted a cocaine dealer operating at the local horse-shoe tossing ring, or whatever you call it. I cycle past it, and wondered a bit about some of the folks that were there. Life in a small town.

                                  I was only joking

Brown said so far this year, 38 officers have been shot at, and 11 have been hit by gunfire.

Why would anyone want to be a cop these days?

Outside of the big cities it's a lot different - the cops around here have a pretty decent working life, and are appreciated by pretty much everybody as far as I can tell.

Last week they busted a cocaine dealer operating at the local horse-shoe tossing ring, or whatever you call it. I cycle past it, and wondered a bit about some of the folks that were there. Life in a small town.

That's right. During the height of the "Defund the Police!" movement last year, whenever I saw a police car on my walks, I made a point of waving at the coppers in their cars whenever I saw them.

I'm not sure if it was appreciated. I hope it was.

Yesterday morning I was out on the bike, and there was a big charity ride that came past the crossroads, and a cop stopped us, while about 100 cyclists crossed. I'd say about 70% of them thanked him. He gave me a friendly warning not to try and jump across, so he clearly had me pegged 😀

                                      I was only joking

I still haven't forgiven the cops for pulling me over 7 years ago and giving me a seatbelt ticket. If I'd been black, I'd have known they pulled me over for being black. But as it was, I knew they were jerks with little to do. That, I do not forgive. I could have invested that $200 in Apple at the time and it would have been like a million dollars right now.
