How about our resident Insurrection Buffs?
Lastly, do you think that it is unreasonable to jail people in solitary confinement for seven months, denying them bail and due process, for misdemeanor charges?
I thought we tackled this one already and demonstrated they were treated no differently and perhaps better than others charged with the same crimes. Do we need to go over that again?

It was never "worse for the country than the Civil War or 9/11." Unless the guy was being sarcastic or something.
Today is August 7. These events happened seven months and a day ago. It's time to stop fixating on it. It was what it was. Unless you honestly believe something constructive can come from the endless rehashing, make your peace with it and move on.

Numerous public officials (including President Uncle Joe) and media outlets have referred to this as the single worst attack on our democracy in our history…

Not in terms of military attacks, but it's pretty fucking low to try to upend an election. It's not the same as invading a Best Buy on Black Friday.
But go ahead and think most of the country and the rest of the world is just being silly about this, see where it gets anyone.

As far as I'm aware, and this is borne out with posts from non-Americans here, the left-leaning and self-hating messaging of our pop culture has been convincing to the rest of the world, to whatever extent the rest of the world thinks about America at all. Which is a lot, because we're like the most popular jock in high school and people love to hate us.
As far as Americans go, sure, they'd mostly agree it was embarrassing and regrettable. Likening it to an aspirational coup is where people begin to differ, and begin to recognize that certain rhetoric is more political, for the purpose of shaming a certain side, making that side less socially palatable. This is the main context in which Jan 6 is brought up anymore. To look askance at people and intimate that they probably shouldn't sniff of the sort of person who's down with that sort of thing.

I’m not saying I agree with them, just how it was reported before and after. We’re on what? Our 2nd Congressional Investigation? 3rd?

Is it pretty fucking low to upend a stolen election? And while you're at it, explain to me how they were going to do it...Burn it down? No, most if them had respect for the country and even for the Capitol building. They had no respect for many if the people who work in it.
Armed coup? Remind me again how many firearms were confiscated in the Capitol. None, I do believe. While you're at it, remind me again how many people were shot and killed. Oh, I remember! One. One protestor, an Air Force veteran was gunned down by an anonymous (Michael L. Byrd) officer.
But if course, she was a magat and deserved to die. Those red caps are sooo triggering.
She would have been better off with a different identifying article patch.

I’ve seen a number of BLM videos here but nearly no Jan 6. Why is that?
Because we're obviously a bunch of racist old white guys full of our privilege.

Because when you search youtube for 1/6 you don't see any (hint, try January 6)
When you search for blm you see a lot of mostly peaceful people (almost all from extreme left media)

Your conclusions as to why that is would be both fascinating and hilarious. Sadly, I sense you will not share them.
Sorry to make you so sad Horace. LOL

I said it was a travesty that BLM got away with rioting a million times here, I also said that Jan 6 should be a new beginning to lock up all anarchists. The best reasonable conclusion you could draw is that I equate BLM protestors to Jan 6 insurrectionists.

Sure they’re the same if you abstract it enough. But the acceptance within the culture is nowhere near the same. Some of us might find it more compelling to speak out against the antisocial behavior that is more widely accepted and even encouraged.

@jolly Why the yellow Star of David?
That's a patch from the Holocaust Museum. It was worn by a Jew in Nazi Germany (or one of the conquered countries). It helped the Germans to quickly identify the Untermensch (under men). The Untermensch were not as good as other men. They were inferior.
Many people such as Jon refer to the people who wore the MAGA hats or supported Trump, as magats (a play on the word "maggot"). The magats are Untermensch. They are stupid, lowly creatures, not as smart as other people. They are inferior.
Because magats are inferior, they do not have the same rights under the Constitution as other citizens. In fact, when compared to how illegals are detained on the Southern border, I would firmly state they may not have the same rights as some illegal aliens. Untermensch are not worthy of rights.
