I don't know that gay and trans people have much in common in that regard. But anybody willing to mutilate their bodies in service of their 'gender identity' is on some sort of fringe. I suspect that, for most, there would be no 'gender identity' strong enough to overwhelm the instinct not to mutilate oneself. People can and do deal with significantly worse physical and emotional afflictions than looking different than they'd prefer to look.
Also I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a desire for penis so strong that it forces closeted men to destroy their families in pursuit of it. But destroying their family in the pursuit of penis is a courageous act for such people, just ask pop culture.

Like what's-his-name said on Rogan, there are indeed post-op trannies who love guns, church and Donald Trump. That tells me everything I need to know.
