1 in 5 electric vehicle owners in California switched back to gas because charging their cars is a hassle

Roughly one in five plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) owners switched back to owning gas-powered cars, in large part because charging the batteries was a pain in the… trunk, the researchers found.

Of those who switched, over 70% lacked access to Level 2 charging at home, and slightly fewer than that lacked Level 2 connections at their workplace.

"If you don't have a Level 2, it's almost impossible," said Tynan, who has tested a wide range of makes and models of PEVs over the years for his research.

Even with the faster charging, a Chevy Bolt he tested still needed nearly six hours to top its range back up to 300 miles from nearly empty - something that takes him just minutes at the pump with his family SUV.

People are easy to switch when it is the same cost, the same quality and same ease of use.

It would be interesting to see if the return rate was the same across all makers.

The primary reason I haven’t moved is I think the current models are ugly and I hate the big screen in the car. If I got passed that then the 6 hours of charging might have killed the deal.

I’ve had many rides in electric cars and it’s a thing of beauty to drive and be a passenger in. An entirely different and better feel all around.

All the Tesla owners who were incinerated when their cars spontaneously combusted, did not live long enough to switch. The same can be said for those who died, screaming, as the self driving feature took control of their car and accelerated into an oncoming 18 wheeler.

Funny you mention that. A good friend is driving up from Texas next month in his Tesla, solo. I mentioned that he should not try to make it in one day and he said it's OK he has auto pilot.
