But if it is a scam, how does the scam work? Where is the point where the guy would make money?

"You'reasking 100 dollars. I'll pay you 500 dollars, but I need for you to ship it to my cousin. I will send you a cashier's check for 2,000. You deposit it in your bank and send 1500 dollars on a gift card along with the item when you ship it to my cousin."

    2 or 3 weeks later:
bank "sir, that 2,000 dollar money order you deposited is fraudulent. We have deducted it from your account."
Your 1500 is gone. Your 2,000 is gone. Your item is gone. The address you shipped to has never heard of the person you shipped to. The guy who "bought" it is gone. He made 1500 dollars, you lost 3500 dollars plus the item you were selling.

But who in hell would accept a check as payment? No sane seller would accept any form of payment that can be revoked. I for one accept cash and wire transfer only. No PayPal, and certainly no check.

The thing about scams is most of the time they're preying on the gullible or the uninformed. The elderly fall for all kinds of stuff, as I'm sure some of us can attest. Not that George is elderly, of course.

There's a ton of videos on Youtube of people using virtual machines and bogus banking sites to hack into and generally screw with scammers. They're quite entertaining.

So, I'm looking to replace Mrs. George's iPhone. Searching around on FB marketplace, I came across this:

                  Screen Shot 2021-07-17 at 8.27.59 AM.png

                  $200???

These go for $400 and up on eBay.

Seller takes only cash via an app.

                  Nope, nope, nope.

You didn’t click the links right?

Question, generally speaking, not what is possible:

If I were to click on a link on my iPhone the same bad things generally wouldn’t happen to phone as opposed to a PC right?

I am aware of the zero click Israeli software issue.

D2 replaced her 2013 MacBook Air last week. I put it up for sale on eBay, and after 6 ½ days got zero bids. Zero.

So, I thought, FB Marketplace is a bit more of a hassle, but I get better and faster results.

I listed it for sale on FB last night for $150, and within hours I had several offers.

Before I show what I think was an obvious scam, I got a legit offer at my asking price, and I sold it at about 2:30.

                                  Screen Shot 2022-08-21 at 5.01.57 PM.png

This "buyer" is in San Antonio. The listing was for local pickup only.

                                  So. Many. Red. Flags.

@Mik it was a PITA, with multiple people asking and only about 10% of them serious. I had 3 people who were willing to buy and meet today, and I picked the one who decided to show up earliest.

It was hard to tell the others that you were beat out.
