What is the point of putting signs up in your garden?

    I was only joking

No point as far as I'm concerned. I refuse to put any sort of sign or slogan on my lawn or garden. The only exception would be a realtor's For Sale sign. Certainly no political signs.

I think it's stupid. I almost understand it during a political campaign. But to preach it at other times seems silly (and that's being conservative) to me.

But, as I've said before in this thread, either you allow signs or you don't. If you do, why are some things more offensive than others?

(Just a thought: Had this homeowner said the same about Trump, what do you think the odds are that she'd be fined?)

I 've already mentioned the lady round the corner who had a Trump/Pence sign up in her front garden.

After the election, when Pence refused to attempt to overturn the result, she covered the 'Pence' with duct tape. It finally came down a few weeks ago, but it made me laugh every time I passed it.

Sigh. My lovely wife felt the need to put up a sign for her candidate of choice in the last election. That choice was not the choice of the rest of the neighborhood. Our relationships in the neighborhood are strained now. Seriously. No rudeness, but people do have a tendency of hurrying up inside when they see me walking the dogs, because of course it was me that put up the signs… 🙄

I've never had any sign out until this year for a local election where one of the ballot initiatives was regarding "defunding police" which I found so insane that I felt a need to both put a sign opposing the initiative and supporting candidates that opposed it. The initiative failed and the pro-police candidates won.

It feels like this kind of violent disagreement where people get really personal is more common in the US than elsewhere I've lived. The UK went there during the Brexit vote, but most people are probably over it at this point. I used to work with a bunch of people who were really conservative, and we constantly gave each other a ton of shit over it, but it never got nasty, it was just what we call taking the piss, a great British pastime of course.

I feel like the US is moving in a direction where there's no real center any more. And, of course, both sides are blaming the other.

TDS pushed overt, righteous hatred of the other political side into the mainstream. And, of course, neither side is to blame.

They've taken their politics to the bonkers point.
