      I think it is just rhetoric, but it was born of Japan's brutal invasion of China. There is some deep-seated hatred there, and not without reason.

      But China knows they cannot do this without allied response.

          I've mentioned that my former partner was stationed in Hawaii in the mid-1970s. He said he never encountered a more racist people than the Japanese.
