Coronavirus Deaths Are Nursing
Home Residents or Workers

At least 25,600 residents and workers have died from the coronavirus at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities for older adults in the United States, according to a New York Times database. The virus so far has infected more than 143,000 at some 7,500 facilities.

Nursing home populations are at a high risk of being infected by — and dying from — the coronavirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, is known to be particularly lethal to older adults with underlying health conditions, and can spread more easily through congregate facilities, where many people live in a confined environment and workers move from room to room.

While just about 10 percent of the country’s cases have occurred in long-term care facilities, deaths related to Covid-19 in these facilities account for a third of the country’s pandemic fatalities.

Seems that nursing homes and prisons demonstrate the difficulty of that.

Kaiser is attempting to document all healthcare worker deaths. It doesn’t seem like it’s a big factor in the “nursing home patients and workers” deaths. But it also doesn’t say whether they are bring the virus to the nursing home or getting it from the patients.

1. @George-K 's article points out that 10% of the infections are coming from nursing homes, Loki's points out that up to 20% are coming from medical professionals, factor in that some of the medical professionals are cross over with the medical professionals and it's a fair estimate to say that 25% of the infections are coming from hospitals and nursing homes. And how many of those cases infected family members at home? If 18% are medical professionals, would it be fair to guess that half of them have infected at least 1 more person at home or out and about? If so, that would be another 9% of the total accounted for, or a little over 1/3 of the infections.

2. Looking @Loki 's article, there are 42 pictures of medical workers that have passed. 10 are caucasian. 24 are black or hispanic. Go read the Vitamin D thread...

I've heard that family members can't visit their loved ones who reside in nursing homes thanks to the coronavirus. That's hard for the residents as well as their family members who want to visit each other.
