Useless yet interesting factoid

An article about the nesting habit of a species of large lizard in Australia, one that burrow five feet deep into the soil in a spiral to lay eggs that takes eight months to hatch, and maybe the only species of lizards that dig that deep. Maybe it has some nontrivial ecological consequences, but this knowledge is highly unlikely to be “useful” to me in my lifetime, yet I find it interesting. :man-shrugging:

I give the scientist credit for continuing to dig down. LOL
Knowing what those lizards look like, i am not sure i would have stuck my head in the hole.
