So less than a mile into the ride my rental bike - an older but very nice Colnago C50 - had a ride-terminating failure. A spoke broke and the axle cracked. The tire went skew and pushed hard again the frame, basically making it immobile.
So I couldn’t even walk the bike - I had to carry it. Tried that for a few hundred feet and decided to call the event organizers for a ride.
The bike shop opened at 10, I managed to get back in time to join the 10-mile “family ride” which started at 10:30.
