The King's Portrait

Maybe it's a reflection of Britain's glorious past.

If you watch carefully, the King gets spooked as the drape (that HE is pulling) comes down. LOL. You wonder if he knows his reign will be temporary, not terribly liked (especially compared to the Queen), and will look even worse once King William takes over and likely becomes a very well received King of the people.

(EBL - "Estimated Blood Loss")
Kind of a geeky medical thing that @jolly and @bachophile will appreciate.
In my teaching days, I used to ask residents how to estimate blood loss by looking at sponges which had been used during surgery.
A common sponge used is the "4 X 4" gauze sponge.
I would take a fluid-filled syringe and start putting liquid into the sponge to show how much blood could be absorbed by such a sponge before it started to drip out. The residents would routinely underestimate the amount by at least a factor of two. I don't remember exactly how much I could get it to hold, but I would guess it was on the order of 20 ml.
IOW, 5 soaked sponges would hold about 100 ml of blood.
A "lap pad" was even more impressive.
These were, of course soaked sponges, with fluid added before the sponge could hold no more, but the point stands: they hold a lot more than you'd guess.
Point is, never trust your instinct and never ever trust the surgeon's opinion, LOL.

Is so, would not ocean grey be a more suitable colour?
I can’t say that the portrait idoes much for me. Being the arch Imperialist I am, I just don’t get it.

All of them are.

Obama's leafy green portrait is colorful, flowery, and celebratory in tone. King Charles III's blood red portrait looks like it lives in a vampire mythology.
-
Wonder if King Charles III ever wished he, as a head of state, is as cool and popular as Obama was.

I would guess it never crossed his Royal mind.
I wonder if any former President ever wished that he, as a head of state, could have the job for life and pass it on to one of his children.
