<p dir="auto">NPR's neat summary line is: "Election betting was common until the 1940s, then mysteriously faded away."</p>

I'm not sure betting on an outcome one is heavily emotionally invested in is a particularly good idea.</p>

<p dir="auto">Which is a very elegant way of saying that people love betting on the future and then calling it epistemology so they can feel improved by the vice.</p>
