I have finally cleared all the Italian customs bureaucratic hurdles, and all systems are go until it was revealed to me today that there’s still one little knit that needs to be overcome and that is it in regards to my lithium batteries that go inside my 2E bikes. I have already paid the extra $1000 to transport these batteries, but I’m getting brush back because my shipping company Schumacher still needs to find the data list of the specs of these batteries before they can proceed. Anybody whoever ever asks me is it worth it to move overseas to Europe to retire, I will simply tell them the truth. It is worth it if you are prepared to deal with a continuous nightmare of bureaucracy, both on the Italian and the American ends of things.

Same here, after 4years & 3months down from 350 to about 5 hamiltonsremovals boxes. So irritating when swmbo wont unpack the last handful dumped in our garage.

Then in April a daughter moved (her 3 bedroom flat) in for a year so we have 60 new boxes, furniture, dogs and everything else. It's lovely to have her around. But.
I've had a power drill battery literally explode.
And I was just warned about my phone battery which appears to have slightly expanded within the case. Risk of it catching fire, so now expecting a new phone to be delivered on Friday.

I would end up getting 10 cents on the dollar and many items are simply not findable here in Sardinia. An internet buddy who writes newsletters on the realities of expatting to Italy would have me arriving in sardinia clad only in a loincloth with a passport and an atm card. Bah humbug is right!

Or maybe adjusted advice... just sell everything and repurchase (most) of it when you settle. Are you able to pedal in the meantime?

Our neighborhood has e-bikes and e-scooters everywhere. Few parents realize the law here makes about 90% of what you see illegal.

For scooters you cannot be on the sidewalk, you have to be at least 12, you have to have a helmet, headline, and taillight, and no tandem riding. Most kids you see are probably ages 9-13, no helmet, zooming on sidewalks.

For e-bikes, you have to be 15, and to be on the sidewalk or path you have to have pedals that actually...pedal (electric-assist bikes). Most of what you see are again, ages 9-13, helmets yes, but zooming around on the street and sidewalks. It's a matter of time before there's a death and people really start to pay attention to the danger so many parents are enabling.

Bah humbug.
